ALTRINCHAM FC PLAYERS OF 1976/77

The following pen-pictures are taken from the Lancaster City v Altrincham programme, 11 December 1976.

  • Tommy CAVANAGH: Goalkeeper, now in second season. A youngster with a great future, son of the Manchester United trainer.
  • Stanley ALLAN: Defender, signed from Skelmersdale United five years ago. F.A. Amateur Cup winners medal holder. Also with Kirkby Town.
  • Micky BROOKE: Defender. After a lengthy spell with Ellesmere Port, signed for Altrincham five seasons ago. A versatile player.
  • John OWENS: Defender/midfield. After a spell at Skem., signed five seasons ago. Former British Universities team captain. A favourite with the crowd.
  • Steve HARDWICK: Defender.A 20 year-old who is studying at Lancaster University. Signed at start of the season.
  • Joe FLAHERTY: Midfield. After two seasons at Burscough, where he was leading scorer, signed from Bangor this season.
  • Ian MORRIS: Forward. Former Stockport County winger, signed last season from Macclesfield Town.
  • Paul CLEMENTS: Forward. Former Amateur International whilst at Skem. Signed two seasons ago from Wigan Ath. Also [at] Oldham Athletic.
  • Micky MOORE: Forward. Signed from Great Harwood during last season. Last season's top scorer. Ex P.N.E. and Southport.
  • Tony WEBBER: Forward. Signed last week from Morecambe for a reputed £1,000. Cost Morecambe £250 from Skem. United. Member of the 1974 FA Trophy winning team. Prolific goalscorer.
  • John DAVISON: Forward. Now in second spell with the club, after signing from Bangor City. Ex-Northwich Victoria.
  • John VERNON Forward. A very fast, young winger who could go places. Ex-Man. City & Stockport County.
  • Jeff JOHNSON Forward (25). Signed this week from Hyde United. Scored last Saturday on his debut. Prolific goalscorer.
